In 1948, the base was renamed Tyndall Air Force Base. In 1957, it came under the umbrella of Aerospace Defence Command which continued until the Adc was disbanded in 1979 and all units and bases were relocated un the Tactical Air Command. to support the 4751st Air Defence Wing (Air Defence Missile Wing from 1958), which was equipped with the Boeing CIM-10 Bomarc surface-to-air missile and based at Hurlburt Field, Florida.
