Flightpath UK - 1/76 Dorchester LP Armoured Command Vehicle - These vehicles were used as mobile head- quarters by the commanders of armoured formations, and by the Royal Signals, for providing wireless links with rear units. They saw active service from 1941 onwards, including use in North Africa, Italy, and N.W. Europe, with 416 vehicles being built. The body was of 12mm armoured plate on steel frames, and they weighed in at nearly 12 tons. Power was provided by a 95hp AEC diesel engine, giving a top speed of 35mph. The LP version carried No.19 and 19HP wireless sets, and was equipped with map tables, and cupboards. They had a crew of eight men, including the driver. In North Africa these vehicles were painted in desert sand with stripes applied in dark grey and azure blue [RAF shade]. The number '5' shown in the drawings appears to have been in red. These vehicles also appeared in mid-stone. In N.W. Europe the primary colour was dark green, with white stars carried on the bonnet and body sides.
